Staying Fit Over 60: Personal Trainer Shares Tips for Healthy Aging

Celia Findlay, a 61-year-old personal trainer, is inspiring people of all ages to prioritize their health and wellness. After making a career change to become a personal trainer, Celia has been teaching wellness classes and training individuals of all ages. She has noticed a positive trend among the over 50s, who have been attending the gym more frequently since the pandemic, with many expressing that they have never felt better or fitter.

Celia, a former horseriding instructor, stays fit at age 60 by running regularly and has even participated in over 100 marathons. She has also competed in races for the British Masters Athletic Federation (BMAF) in the over 50s and over 60s categories, including ultra-marathons.

Sharing her advice on staying fit for over 60s, Celia emphasized that it’s never too late to start something new. She believes that physical health and wellbeing are essential for a happier life and reaching goals. With more over 50s taking up exercise and attending wellness classes, Celia has witnessed an increase in confidence and motivation among her clients.

Experts at Run and Become highlighted the benefits of running daily for over 60s, including improving general health and fitness, weight management, mobility, muscle tone, and mental attitude. Running has also been shown to promote better sleep and reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

In a similar vein, Dawn Kissack, a 59-year-old retiree, rediscovered her passion for swimming and has since competed in The European Masters and European Championships. Swimming four times a week has not only improved her physical fitness but has also helped her mental health by allowing her to switch off and improve mindfulness.

Both Celia and Dawn serve as inspiring examples of how staying active and setting new challenges can lead to a healthier mind and body, even in later stages of life. Their stories highlight the importance of prioritizing physical activity and finding joy in staying fit, regardless of age.
